Celebrating Veterinary Nurses and Technicians Week

As Veterinary Nurses and Technicians Week rolls around, I want to take this chance to celebrate all the incredible nurses and technicians I've had the privilege to work with—and those I will soon work with at the Sunshine Coast Equine Hospital. These dedicated professionals play a fundamental role in veterinary practice, ensuring the smooth operation of our work and the well-being of our patients. Simply put, the wheels wouldn’t turn without them.

I started my career as a veterinary nurse, and although my path has since diverged, I will always be a nurse at heart. In fact, I haven’t been able to step away completely and still work at Warwick Equine Veterinarians with Director Dr Tias Muurlink on occasion to get my fix.

My roots in nursing give me a deep appreciation for the tireless efforts and unwavering commitment of veterinary nurses and technicians.

The challenges faced by equine nurses are no small feats. Their task list is long and sometimes feels never-ending, but they always find the time to ensure that patients are monitored and nursed back to health where possible. Whether it's administering treatments, providing post-operative care, or simply offering comfort, their contributions are indispensable. There are times when the emotional toll can be very heavy; happy endings are not always guaranteed, but they continue to trot on and keep moving forward, demonstrating resilience and compassion every step of the way.

Veterinary nurses and technicians often work behind the scenes, yet their impact is felt in every corner of the practice. They are the heartbeat of our operations, ensuring that each patient receives the best possible care.

As we prepare to open the Sunshine Coast Equine Hospital, I am excited to start building our nursing team. I look forward to collaborating with these skilled professionals and creating an environment where their hard work is recognized and celebrated every day. Together, we will continue to provide exceptional care to our equine patients and support each other through the challenges and triumphs of veterinary practice.

To all the veterinary nurses and technicians out there, thank you for everything you do. Your passion, dedication, and hard work do not go unnoticed. This week, and every week, we celebrate you and the countless ways you make a difference.
