Construction Update - October 2024

The key to everything is patience. You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it. ~ Arnold H. Glasow

If you’ve ever been involved in renovating or building a house, you’re likely familiar with the whirlwind of emotions that comes with it. If I were to ask how you felt during that time, what would you say? Elation, joy, frustration, anger—a rollercoaster of emotions as you navigated the process?

That’s exactly how we’re feeling as we work on the Sunshine Coast Equine Hospital! We’re experiencing the full gamut of emotions as we ride the project rollercoaster.

When construction finally began, our excitement was through the roof. Seeing the earthworks machinery on-site, moving dirt and preparing the site pad, was a thrilling moment. They did a fantastic job, and our site looked ready for the next step—preparing to lay down the slabs.

But, as with any rollercoaster, we soon experienced a dip—a quick decline as we hit an unexpected low: delays. While frustrating, delays are almost inevitable in a project of this scale.

The Sunshine Coast Equine Hospital is such a large project that we’re building it in stages. The first stage, naturally the biggest, includes the main building, which will house our surgery suite, examination areas, reception, and office spaces. We’re also focusing on constructing an isolation unit, stable block, yards, and a lameness assessment area.

Looking ahead, our dream for future stages includes adding more stables and advanced imaging center including scintigraphy, CT and or MRI.

The main building alone covers more square meters than four houses.

Although we have not been able to start construction on the site, over the last month we have been able to get the large parcel of land behind the site seeded with horse pasture, just in time for some good rain! Over the coming months we hope for good weather to encourage our pasture to grow and become established.

We have also achieved a major milestone in registering the Sunshine Coast Equine Hospital as a Veterinary Hospital with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Queensland. We are super excited to receive this and reassured that the hard work we have put into the plans meet the high standard set out by the board.

As we navigate the current delay, we’re staying positive and diligently working on the many behind-the-scenes tasks that need to be completed. And believe me, there are plenty! Our to-do lists are long, but we’re ticking off items daily to ensure the hospital will be ready to open once construction is finished.

In the meantime, we hope you’ll continue to be patient with us as we work on hatching our egg…
